Sensor Fusion

Hey everyone,

I was curious if anyone has messed with concepts of sensor fusion and trying to maintain an augmented world without a tracking image (other than to initialize the space). I've started doing basic conceptual research and such, but I was curious to see if anyone has even attempted something such as this!

Here's an example of implementing sensor fusion on an iPad:

  1. Good question, this is a cool direction to pursue! So far, dozens of games have used the gryoscope, accelerometer, and GPS to loosely place objects, such as ghosts, aliens, and mosquitoes, in specific spatial locations surrounding the player. The objects appear to slide a little bit in the space (when themed as ghosts, the player forgives the tech more than with other themes). These aren't as comprehensive as sensor fusion, but they serve a good starting point:

There are also some art games that cue the player to walk around her space and aim the phone in various directions to play and affect the music.

Also, note in Paparazzi that when the character jumps onto the phone the accelerometer is used to have the character dangle in the right direction.
